Turkish Airlines has opened its first overseas lounge in Europe with the launch of a new premium facility at Edinburgh International Airport, reinforcing both the carrier’s strong European presence and Edinburgh’s growing status as an international gateway.
The lounge was officially unveiled on 10 December during a celebratory event hosted by Türkiye’s flag carrier, which operates flights to more countries than any other airline. The Edinburgh facility is Turkish Airlines’ eighth lounge outside Türkiye and reflects its strategy of extending the five-star Lounge İstanbul experience to key global destinations.
Covering 673 square metres and accommodating up to 149 guests, the lounge offers a refined travel environment featuring an open buffet with a Turkish pide service at lunch and dinner, a luxury relaxation area equipped with TVs and Wi-Fi, and two dedicated prayer rooms. Additional amenities include a baby care room, an accessible restroom for guests with reduced mobility, and flight information display screens.
Turkish Airlines Chief Operations Officer, M. Akif Konar, described the opening as a significant milestone, noting that it is the airline’s first lounge abroad in Europe and a clear demonstration of its commitment to the region, where it maintains a strong operational footprint. He said the airline will continue expanding its presence while bringing its award-winning hospitality closer to European travellers.
Edinburgh International Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer, Stephanie Wear, said the new lounge marks an important chapter for both the airport and the airline, highlighting Turkish Airlines’ investment in enhancing passenger experience. She noted that the lounge, which is open to all eligible travellers, provides a relaxing space with runway views alongside high-quality food and beverage offerings.
Located on Level 2 near gate 16, the lounge is accessible to Turkish Airlines Business Class passengers, Miles&Smiles Elite, Elite Plus and Elite Corporate Club members travelling in any class, holders of the Miles&Smiles Premier Visa Signature Card issued in the United States, as well as guests with a paid lounge membership.
Turkish Airlines currently operates 10 weekly flights between Edinburgh and Istanbul, offering travellers from Scotland seamless connections through its extensive global network of 356 destinations across 132 countries.
