Air Peace has expanded its fleet with the addition of another Embraer 190, bringing the number of Embraer aircraft in its fleet to 18 as the Nigerian carrier continues to increase capacity across its domestic, regional and international operations.

The 96-seat aircraft arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2, Lagos, at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. It was flown into Lagos by Captain Ibironke Rotimi-Olajide, marking the airline’s eighth aircraft acquisition this year.

The aircraft has been named after Mrs Eka Sunmonu, wife of Mutiu Sunmonu, former Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company. According to the airline, this is the first time it has named an aircraft after someone outside the Onyema family.

The latest acquisition adds to Air Peace’s growing fleet, which includes Embraer aircraft, including the E195-E2 series, as well as Boeing jets. The airline has also acquired five Boeing 737-800 aircraft in 2026, reflecting its continued investment in fleet expansion and network development.

Configured with 12 business-class and 84 economy-class seats, the new Embraer 190 features a 1-2 seating arrangement in business class and a 2-2 layout in economy, eliminating the middle seat. The cabin also offers generous legroom, additional personal space and in-seat power sockets.

Air Peace spokesperson Efe Osifo-Whiskey said the acquisition was part of a long-term strategy to build a diverse fleet capable of supporting the airline’s growing network and operational needs.

He said the expanded fleet would provide greater flexibility, strengthen schedule resilience and improve connectivity across the markets served by the airline.

“With 18 Embraer aircraft now in our fleet, alongside our growing Boeing portfolio, we are building capacity for the long term,” Osifo-Whiskey said, adding that the airline’s aircraft acquisitions were guided by its broader expansion plans.

Air Peace said it would continue investing in aircraft and operational capacity to strengthen domestic connections, expand its presence across Africa and support its international services.
