Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), Lagos, has stepped up preparations for regional flight operations following the settlement of its long-running concession dispute with the Federal Government.

The company’s Chairman, Dr Wale Babalakin, recently inspected facilities undergoing preparatory works to assess progress towards meeting the requirements for the commencement of regional services.

The inspection covered the regional arrivals area, apron extension and access gate for staff and concessionaires. BASL’s Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, Remi Jibodu, briefed the chairman on the progress of the projects and operational arrangements.

Babalakin commended the team for the work completed so far and urged it to maintain the pace to meet the agreed timeline. He also emphasised the need for close engagement with government agencies and regulatory authorities, particularly the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), to ensure that all necessary inspections, assessments and approvals are secured before regional flights begin.

He further stressed the importance of facility finishing, safety compliance, operational readiness and effective coordination among stakeholders.

BASL’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Idunnu Oyebolu, said the company was pursuing preparations for regional operations alongside plans to manage increased passenger traffic expected during the year-end travel season.

She said the priority was to ensure that the terminal’s facilities, personnel and operating processes could support safe, seamless and efficient passenger services while maintaining established service standards.

Jibodu also reaffirmed the team’s commitment to completing outstanding works within the stipulated timeframe, adding that engagement with relevant agencies would be strengthened to obtain the necessary clearances ahead of the launch.

The planned regional operations are expected to expand travel options through MMA2 and strengthen its role in connecting Lagos with destinations across the region.

The development follows the recent settlement agreement between the Federal Government and Bi-Courtney, which addressed the longstanding dispute over the MMA2 concession and paved the way for the terminal’s expansion into regional flight operations.
