Asaba International Airport has taken a major step toward modernising its ground operations following a strategic partnership between Interswitch and the Asaba Airport Company (AAC) to deploy a fully automated smart parking and access control system at the airport.

The initiative will see the implementation of the Interswitch Parking Management Platform (PMP), a technology-driven solution designed to improve operational efficiency, strengthen revenue management, and enhance the overall experience for passengers, visitors, and airport personnel.

The deployment comes amid increasing passenger traffic and vehicular movement across Nigerian airports, which has heightened the need for smarter traffic management systems and digital infrastructure capable of supporting seamless airport operations.

According to both organisations, the new system will introduce a cashless and automated parking framework that enables real-time vehicle monitoring, faster processing at entry and exit points, improved traffic flow, and reduced congestion within airport premises.

The platform is also expected to replace fragmented manual processes with a centralised digital system that provides airport management with greater visibility and control over parking operations, access management, and revenue tracking.

Vice President, Transport Ecosystem at Interswitch, Nnenna Ajanwachuku, described the partnership as part of the company’s broader commitment to deploying technology solutions that improve efficiency and transparency across critical sectors of the economy.

“This partnership with the Asaba Airport Company reflects our commitment to deploying technology that drives efficiency, transparency, and seamless user experiences across critical sectors. With the Parking Management Platform, we are not only addressing operational challenges but also enabling smarter infrastructure that supports revenue growth and long-term sustainability,” she said.

Ajanwachuku added that the project positions Asaba Airport among emerging airports in Nigeria embracing modern smart infrastructure solutions aimed at improving service delivery and operational coordination.

Beyond easing access and parking management for travellers, the platform is expected to strengthen airport security and operational planning through enhanced access control and real-time analytics.

Managing Director of Asaba Airport Company, Christophe Penninck, said the collaboration marks a significant milestone in the airport’s efforts to improve service standards and operational excellence.

“Our collaboration with Interswitch represents a significant step forward in our commitment to operational excellence and service delivery. The introduction of this advanced parking and access control system will improve efficiency, enhance transparency, and deliver a better experience for passengers and visitors,” Penninck stated.

He noted that the solution would also improve the airport’s ability to manage revenue more effectively while positioning Asaba Airport as a leader in smart airport infrastructure development in Nigeria.

Industry stakeholders say the move reflects the growing adoption of digital solutions across Nigeria’s aviation sector as airports increasingly seek to modernise infrastructure, improve customer experience, and optimise non-aeronautical revenue streams.
