FirstBank of Nigeria, the nation’s premier financial institution and leader in financial inclusion services, proudly presents the 63rd edition of the FirstBank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship. This highly anticipated international event, hosted under the First@Sports initiative, underscores FirstBank’s steadfast dedication to sports development and nation-building.

For over six decades, FirstBank has championed sports in Nigeria, particularly in golf, polo, and tennis. The Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship is renowned as Nigeria’s most prestigious international golf tournament, drawing top amateur players from around the world.

The tournament has become a launchpad for amateur golfers, providing them with a chance to elevate their careers. Many past participants have progressed to the professional ranks, with others discovering their potential through the competition. The championship also offers World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, positioning participants on a global stage.

This year’s championship will be held at Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Club from November 18–24, 2024, featuring two new additions:

  1. “Search for 4 Stars” – a program that empowers 150 young male and female caddies aged 18–30, offering them the opportunity to showcase their skills.
  2. “Championship Kitty” – an inclusive event for golfers with a handicap of 10 or more.

Proceeds from the Corporate Golf Challenge will be donated to charities supported by FirstBank’s SPARK initiative, furthering the bank’s community impact.

The 63rd edition of the prestigious FirstBank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship is set to continue its legacy of excellence, hosted once again by Ikoyi Club 1938. The golf captain of the club, Tade Adekunle, expressed pride in the long-standing partnership between the club and FirstBank, emphasizing its role in inspiring amateur golfers.

“This remarkable 62-year partnership has consistently pushed amateur golfers to excel and has paved the way for those aiming to turn professional,” Adekunle said. He also conveyed confidence that the upcoming edition will maintain the high standards of previous tournaments and extended a warm welcome to all participants and guests.
