TAAG Angola Airlines has secured authorisation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to operate its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on commercial services to Europe, marking a major milestone in the carrier’s fleet modernisation and international growth strategy.
The approval follows the completion of EASA’s certification and oversight requirements for airlines operating within the European Union and clears the way for the introduction of the new-generation aircraft into TAAG’s European network.
As part of the initial rollout, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will be deployed on the Luanda-Lisbon-Luanda route, one of the airline’s most important international services. The aircraft is expected to enhance passenger comfort, improve fuel efficiency and strengthen TAAG’s competitive position in the European market.
The authorisation represents a significant achievement in the airline’s ongoing transformation programme, which is focused on building a more efficient, sustainable and globally competitive operation. It also underscores TAAG’s commitment to maintaining high standards of operational safety, regulatory compliance and service excellence.

Commenting on the development, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAAG Angola Airlines, Clóvis Rosa, described the approval as recognition of the airline’s sustained efforts to meet international technical and operational standards.
According to him, EASA’s decision reflects the extensive work undertaken by the airline to ensure the successful integration of the Boeing 787 fleet while reinforcing confidence among regulators, industry partners and customers.
The introduction of the Dreamliner is expected to deliver several operational benefits, including improved fleet performance, greater efficiency on long-haul routes and a more modern travel experience for passengers through advanced onboard technology and enhanced cabin comfort.
TAAG views the Boeing 787 programme as a central component of its long-term growth strategy, supporting efforts to strengthen connectivity between Angola and key international markets while creating a platform for future network expansion.
The airline said it will continue to advance the technical and regulatory processes required for the gradual integration of additional Boeing 787 aircraft into its international operations. As the fleet expansion progresses, TAAG aims to further enhance its operational capabilities, support sustainable growth and reinforce its position as a leading African carrier serving global destinations.
The EASA approval marks the beginning of a new phase in the airline’s transformation journey, providing a strong foundation for future growth while deepening its presence in the European market.
