Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has secured exclusive ground handling rights at the newly commissioned Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, reinforcing its position in Nigeria’s aviation services sector as the facility begins operations.

The airport, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu, is expected to play a strategic role in expanding Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, with a strong focus on both passenger traffic and cargo movement. SAHCO’s appointment as the sole ground handling provider underscores confidence in the company’s operational standards, safety compliance, and track record in delivering efficient aviation services.

Chairman of SAHCO, Taiwo Afolabi, described the development as a significant endorsement of the company’s capabilities, noting that it reflects years of investment in modern equipment, skilled personnel, and service innovation. He said the company is fully prepared to support seamless operations at the new airport while maintaining high service standards across its existing network.

A key component of SAHCO’s strategy at the airport is cargo development. Through its partnership with Allied Air, the company is positioning the facility as a hub for efficient cargo handling, supported by modern warehouse infrastructure designed to process imports and exports, including time-sensitive and high-value goods. This is expected to drive growth in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and e-commerce.

SAHCO also provided comprehensive ground handling services during the airport’s commissioning, covering ramp operations, passenger facilitation, and cargo processing, ensuring a smooth start to operations.

With the launch of the Gateway International Airport, Ogun State is set to strengthen its role in regional connectivity and economic activity, while SAHCO’s involvement is expected to support the delivery of efficient, reliable, and globally competitive aviation services as traffic builds.
