Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the imminent resumption of cargo flights between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
Keyamo stated that this agreement was reached following his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with his counterpart, Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Suleit.
During a media briefing detailing his achievements and plans for Nigeria’s aviation industry, the minister highlighted the significance of this development, noting that cargo flights between the two countries had been suspended for a long time. He emphasized the global importance of air cargo trade, which, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), accounts for approximately 35% of world trade and generates about $6 trillion annually.
Keyamo expressed that Nigeria’s absence in this sector has been a missed opportunity. He reaffirmed his commitment to expanding Nigeria’s cargo trade routes and mentioned that his interactions with other countries would continue to explore further opportunities.
To ensure the smooth resumption of cargo flights, Keyamo announced the appointment of focal persons to work out the necessary modalities. This move marks a significant achievement in Nigeria’s aviation sector and is expected to enhance the country’s participation in global trade.
