Enugu Air has secured approval to operate flights on the Lagos–London Gatwick route through a partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation (OBA), marking a significant step in the state-owned carrier’s international expansion plans.

In a statement issued in Lagos, the airline said Omni-Blu Aviation had been designated to operate the service on its behalf under a strategic partnership. Bookings for the route are now open, with flight operations scheduled to commence in December 2026.

The proposed service is expected to strengthen air connectivity between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, providing additional travel options while supporting business, tourism and trade links between both countries.

Although the airline confirmed the approval and planned launch, it did not disclose details of the operational arrangement, including the aircraft type and frequency of flights.

The development forms part of the Enugu State Government’s broader aviation expansion agenda, which seeks to position the state as a gateway for international connectivity, investment and economic activity.

The partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation provides the framework for Enugu Air to enter the UK market, although the private operator will handle the designated route.

The approval also highlights the growing role of state-backed airlines in expanding Nigeria’s international air connectivity. Enugu Air’s move follows the expansion of regional operations by other subnational carriers, including Ibom Air, which operates services to destinations in West and Central Africa.

With the planned Lagos–London Gatwick service, Enugu Air is seeking to extend its reach beyond domestic and regional markets and establish a presence on a major international route.
