Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Akin Olateru.

The Accident Investigation Bureau Nigeria (AIB), has unveiled plans to digitise air accident investigation findings and reports.

Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Akin Olateru disclosed this at the stakeholders review of accidents reports in Abuja yesterday, said AIB-N will lead the world as plans are in place to simplify its air accidents information and report in a digitalized graphic form before end of 2021.

He said that AIB has gotten the approval from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to digitalize the air accident reporting system.

Olateru said the new system would address safety concerns and delays associated with churning out airline incidents related reports.

He also disclosed AIB plans to launch an aviation safety Centre in a bid to have a centralized reporting database that would be accessible to stakeholders in the aviation industry.

“When you look at accident investigation, it is not a blame game. It is done in the interest of safety to enhance safety and find out what happened and the causal factor to see how we can prevent a reoccurrence.” he said.
