TAAG Angola Airlines has announced the launch of a new direct service between Luanda and Guangzhou, marking a significant step in the carrier’s international expansion strategy and strengthening air connectivity between Africa and Asia.
The airline formally unveiled the route during a launch event in Luanda attended by Angolan and Chinese government representatives, members of the diplomatic community, corporate partners and stakeholders from the aviation industry. The occasion also marked the commencement of ticket sales for the new service, with commercial operations scheduled to begin on June 23, 2026.
The route will connect Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, located outside Luanda, with Guangzhou, one of China’s most important economic, industrial and logistics centres. The service will initially operate once weekly, with departures from Angola every Tuesday.
TAAG will deploy its Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the route, offering passengers improved comfort, operational efficiency and a modern long-haul travel experience. The aircraft is among the newest additions to the airline’s fleet and forms part of its broader fleet modernisation programme.
According to the airline, the new route represents a strategic milestone in its efforts to build a stronger intercontinental network while enhancing its role as a bridge between African and Asian markets. The service is expected to facilitate the movement of business travellers, tourists, investors and cargo between the two regions.
The launch comes against the backdrop of growing economic and commercial relations between Angola and China, which maintain longstanding ties across infrastructure, energy, trade and investment. The airline noted that the new connection would further support institutional, commercial, cultural and tourism exchanges between both countries.
TAAG also sees the route as an opportunity to strengthen the position of Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport as a regional and international aviation hub, supporting Angola’s ambition to become a key gateway for travel and trade across the African continent.
With the addition of Guangzhou to its network, the carrier reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Angolan civil aviation, expanding global connectivity and supporting economic development through enhanced international air transport links.
