TAAG Angola Airlines has received its third Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marking another major milestone in its modernization strategy and coinciding with the airline’s full transition of international operations to the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) in Icolo e Bengo, Luanda.

The newly delivered aircraft, named D2-TAI, arrived from Montreal with a brief technical stop in Faro, Portugal, and was greeted by TAAG executives and stakeholders at AIAAN. This addition strengthens the airline’s ongoing 2024–2029 Strategic Plan focused on regional expansion, fleet transformation, and enhanced passenger experience.

The Airbus A220-300 is configured with 137 seats — 12 in Business Class, 35 in Premium Economy, and 90 in Economy — and is praised for its fuel efficiency, reduced carbon footprint, and modern cabin features. TAAG now operates three of these aircraft, which are currently deployed on key intra-African routes such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Windhoek, São Tomé, and Maputo.

“This is a new era for TAAG, driven by efficiency, customer focus, and connectivity. The addition of our third A220-300 is a key step in becoming a competitive, modern African airline,” said Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines.

In a parallel development, TAAG has completed its move from the old 4 de Fevereiro International Airport to the state-of-the-art Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) as of September 15, 2025. The transition, which began in late 2024, aligns with Angola’s broader aviation strategy to position Luanda as a regional hub connecting Africa to global destinations.

The new airport now serves all of TAAG’s international flights, including routes to Lisbon, São Paulo, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lagos, and Kinshasa, alongside domestic and regional services. Designed to accommodate increased traffic, AIAAN offers modern facilities, advanced security systems, and improved passenger services.

The move was enabled by an Executive Decree and is supported by an ongoing communication campaign targeting travelers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition.

TAAG’s dual focus—on modernizing its fleet with fuel-efficient aircraft like the A220-300 and centralizing operations at a world-class airport—is poised to strengthen its role as a leading African carrier in the years ahead.
