A recent helicopter crash involving a Sikorsky S76, operated by Eastwind Aviation Logistics, has left six passengers—identified as senior officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)—and two crew members feared dead after the chopper went down in the Atlantic Ocean. The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday while en route from the Port Harcourt Military Base to the FPSO NUIM ANTAN offshore platform near Bonny Finima.
Following the crash, three bodies were recovered as search and rescue operations, led by Eastwind, continue in collaboration with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). President Bola Tinubu directed the military to join the intensified rescue efforts, extending condolences to the families and the NNPCL community, and praying for comfort for the grieving families.
Eastwind has requested privacy for the affected families and assured ongoing support, while NNPCL and relevant authorities are closely monitoring developments.
