TAAG Angola Airlines has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) CO2 Connect programme, strengthening its commitment to sustainability, environmental transparency and alignment with global aviation standards.

The move marks another milestone in the airline’s ongoing transformation strategy, aimed at improving operational efficiency and supporting the aviation industry’s transition to more sustainable business practices.

IATA CO2 Connect is a global initiative that enables airlines to calculate and report carbon emissions using actual operational data supplied directly by participating carriers. By contributing its data to the platform, TAAG will help improve the accuracy, consistency and credibility of emissions reporting across the aviation sector.

The airline said its participation will enhance the quality of environmental information available to passengers, corporate customers and institutional stakeholders, while supporting industry-wide efforts to provide more transparent and reliable carbon emissions data.

TAAG noted that environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations are playing an increasingly important role in how organisations select airline partners. As a result, joining IATA CO2 Connect will strengthen the carrier’s ability to meet the sustainability requirements of multinational corporations, development institutions, travel management companies and other organisations that incorporate environmental performance into procurement and contracting decisions.

Chief Commercial Officer of TAAG Angola Airlines, Joelson da Silva de Sá e Vasconcelos, said sustainability has become a key driver of competitiveness in the global aviation industry.

“Participation in IATA CO2 Connect strengthens our ability to provide customers and partners with more transparent and reliable environmental information while reinforcing TAAG’s alignment with the industry’s global sustainability objectives,” he said.

The airline said integration into the platform forms part of a broader strategy to improve operational performance, promote responsible business practices and enhance its competitiveness in international markets.

By adopting globally recognised emissions reporting standards, TAAG aims to provide greater transparency for passengers and corporate clients while supporting customers’ own sustainability and ESG objectives.

The development comes as the airline accelerates its operational and technological modernisation agenda, positioning itself as a more efficient, responsible and forward-looking carrier.

TAAG said the initiative underscores its commitment to creating long-term value for customers, partners and shareholders while contributing to the development of a more sustainable aviation sector in Angola, across Africa and beyond.
