Overland Airways has successfully renewed its International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification for the fifth consecutive time, underscoring its steadfast commitment to global safety standards. As Nigeria’s longest-serving domestic airline, Overland first achieved IOSA certification in 2015, and has since renewed it in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, and now in 2024, reflecting a consistent dedication to operational integrity.
The rigorous IOSA audit assessed Overland across eight key safety disciplines, securing the airline’s place among over 417 airlines listed on the IOSA registry worldwide—a standard required by the African Union for member airlines. This milestone is a testament to Overland’s ongoing role in setting the bar for safety within African aviation.
Capt. Edward Boyo, Overland’s CEO, highlighted the achievement, stating, “Our IOSA certification renewal affirms our commitment to meeting the highest international standards. It reinforces our 22-year promise to deliver safe, reliable, and comfortable flights.”
Alongside its IOSA renewal, Overland Airways continues to invest in fleet modernization. Transitioning from an all-turboprop fleet, the airline recently added two Embraer E175 jets, broadening service capabilities and expanding its network. In August 2024, Overland launched direct flights between Lagos and Abuja, easing demand on this busy route and enhancing passenger convenience.
Boyo acknowledged the support of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and commended his team’s dedication in meeting the stringent IOSA audit standards. “This milestone was only achievable through our staff’s commitment and the invaluable support of the NCAA,” he said.
Overland’s fifth IOSA certification renewal not only solidifies its dedication to safety but also exemplifies its leadership within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
