Ethiopian Airlines in partnership with ASKY has commenced flight to South Africa, making it the only non South African Airline on the route between Nigeria and South Africa.
The ASKY aircraft which was operated by Capt. Dawit Muluneh was welcomed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on arrival for its inaugural flight
The General Manager of Ethiopian Airlines in Nigeria, Mrs. Firihiewot Mekonnen told the media at the inaugural ceremony at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport that ASKY is the operating airline while Ethiopian Airline is the marketing airline.
In her words, she said, “Nigeria is one of our biggest markets where we bring the best of our Aircrafts and we always strive to give our Best to Nigerians. As part of this motive we found out a lot of Nigerians travel to South Africa so we decided to help improve the Connectivity for the passengers. We have also availed many promotional fares so we invite Nigerians to use the best deals to Johannesburg”
Firihiewot explained further that the inaugural flight was a codeshare flight as both Ethiopian airlines and Asky are partners. The flight she said was going to Johannesburg via Libreville but on some other days, it will go through Doula. This means that there will be a flight form Lagos to Johannesburg everyday with one stop over.”
On his part captain Dawit Muluneh said the airline was glad to have commenced the flight operation to South Africa:
He said: “We are very happy that we started this flight, this is a new destination and it is new expansion for Asky Airlines so we are very glad that we are making this flight.”
The inaugural flight which had a 70% load factor departed Lagos for Johannesburg by 4.45pm.
