Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier and one of the fastest-growing airline brands globally, has announced the commencement of a new passenger flight service to Porto, Portugal, starting July 2, 2025. The new route will operate with a single stop in Madrid, Spain, enhancing connectivity for travelers and furthering the airline’s European expansion.
The flight service will operate four times a week using the B787 Dreamliner. Flight ET740 will depart Addis Ababa on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 23:10, arriving in Madrid at 05:55 the next day. It will then depart Madrid on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 06:55, arriving in Porto at 07:15. The return flight, ET741, will leave Porto on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 19:55, reaching Madrid at 21:10, before departing at 23:10 for Addis Ababa, where it will land at 07:25 the following day.
Ethiopian Airlines’ Group CEO, Ato Mesfin Tasew, expressed excitement about the new route, describing Porto as a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage and economic significance. He emphasized the airline’s commitment to offering passengers more travel options and seamless connectivity while maintaining its renowned service excellence.
The airline has previously served Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, through codeshare flights via London, Milan, and other European hubs. Currently, Ethiopian Airlines operates approximately 140 weekly passenger flights to 22 destinations across Europe, alongside cargo services to eight European destinations.
With this new route, Ethiopian Airlines continues to strengthen its presence in Europe and enhance its role in fostering stronger economic and cultural ties between Africa, Portugal, and the rest of the world.
