Air Peace Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Allen Onyema, has commended Fidelity Bank Plc for repaying its US$400 million Eurobond at maturity, describing the achievement as a reflection of the bank’s financial resilience, strong corporate governance and effective leadership.
In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of Air Peace’s Board, Management and staff, Onyema praised the bank for meeting its obligations throughout the five-year tenure of the bond, particularly its decision to settle the entire amount using internal liquidity.
He attributed the achievement to the strategic leadership of Fidelity Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, noting that her stewardship had strengthened the institution’s financial position and reputation within Nigeria’s banking sector.
Onyema also applauded the bank for completing its recapitalisation ahead of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s stipulated deadline. He described the successful recapitalisation and Eurobond repayment as significant milestones that demonstrate the institution’s capacity for prudent financial management and sustainable growth.
The Air Peace chairman highlighted the importance of a resilient banking sector to the development of capital-intensive industries, particularly aviation, where access to financing is critical to fleet acquisition, operational sustainability and business expansion.
He noted that financially strong institutions such as Fidelity Bank could play an important role in supporting indigenous businesses and strengthening their capacity to compete in the global marketplace.
According to him, closer partnerships between banks and local enterprises are essential to improving Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and advancing broader development objectives.
Onyema congratulated Onyeali-Ikpe, the bank’s Board, Management and employees, expressing confidence in its ability to record further achievements. He also reaffirmed Air Peace’s goodwill towards the institution, wishing it continued growth, stability and success in Nigeria’s financial services industry.
