The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed Airport Command, has reported a significant revenue boost, generating N144.2 billion between January and October 2024—a 94% increase compared to the N74.28 billion collected in the same period in 2023.

Customs Area Controller Michael Awe attributed the remarkable revenue growth to enhanced trade facilitation, improved stakeholder compliance, strategic resource deployment, and effective law enforcement measures.

“This progressive difference of N69.9 billion showcases our commitment to implementing intelligent risk management strategies, interagency collaboration, and efficient cargo clearance procedures,” Awe said.

The command also seized contraband worth N3.32 billion between July and October 2024. Items included 250 live turtles, Canadian cannabis sativa, military helmets, drones, and tramadol, among others, underscoring the command’s anti-smuggling efforts.

Looking ahead, Awe affirmed the command’s focus on leveraging technology, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and intensifying anti-smuggling initiatives to sustain growth and enhance operations.
