Air Peace has strengthened its international expansion drive with the launch of direct flight services between Lagos and Barbados alongside the acquisition of an additional Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft to boost its growing network operations.
The airline successfully operated its inaugural scheduled commercial flight from Lagos to Barbados on May 24, 2026, using its Boeing 777 aircraft, marking a major milestone in efforts to improve air connectivity between Africa and the Caribbean.
The historic flight departed Lagos with over 284 passengers onboard, reflecting growing demand for more seamless travel options between both regions. Among dignitaries on the flight were the High Commissioner of Barbados to Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, Air Peace Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Nowel Ngala, actress Temitope Olowoniyan, alongside other airline officials and passengers.
The new route is expected to ease longstanding travel difficulties faced by passengers moving between Africa and the Caribbean, particularly challenges associated with multiple stopovers, lengthy transit connections, and complex visa processes through third countries.
Industry stakeholders described the development as a strategic step towards positioning Nigeria as a stronger aviation gateway within Africa while enhancing tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between West Africa and the Caribbean.
Air Peace said the Barbados service would initially operate twice monthly, with the first return commercial flight from Barbados to Lagos scheduled for May 25, further establishing a direct air bridge between both regions.
Meanwhile, the airline has also expanded its fleet with the arrival of another Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen operational capacity across domestic and regional routes.
The newly acquired aircraft, registered as 5N-CGD, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on May 24, representing another milestone in the carrier’s ongoing fleet modernisation and expansion programme.
Configured with 189 Economy Class seats, the aircraft is designed to enhance passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and scheduling flexibility. It features advanced avionics, fuel-efficient engines, spacious cabin configuration, and modern safety systems aimed at improving reliability across Air Peace’s expanding route network.
The airline noted that the aircraft would support increased seat capacity, improve connectivity, and provide more flexible travel options for passengers while helping to reduce operating costs and carbon emissions through improved fuel efficiency.
Air Peace currently operates one of the continent’s most diverse fleets, including Boeing 777s, Boeing 737s, Embraer aircraft, Dornier jets, and Airbus helicopters serving domestic, regional, and international destinations.
The latest fleet addition and the launch of the Barbados route further reinforce the airline’s ambition to expand connectivity, deepen international operations, and position Nigeria as a major aviation hub in Africa.
