The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has issued Aviation Security (AVSEC) Authorisation Certificates to six institutions and service providers as part of efforts to strengthen aviation security compliance, operational standards and professionalism across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The certification exercise, conducted during a presentation ceremony in Lagos on May 21, 2026, reflects the authority’s renewed push to enhance regulatory oversight and ensure that all organisations involved in aviation security operations meet globally accepted standards and operational requirements.
The institutions certified by the NCAA include the FAAN Aviation Training School, Maiken Security and Consultancy Services Limited, Chigurad Services Nigeria Limited, Safety Signatures Limited, Jomaric Security Service Nigeria Limited and Vani Security.
Speaking during the event, the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, represented by the Director of Aviation Security Regulation, Dr. Bernard Omogo, said certification remains mandatory for all institutions operating within the aviation security space and is granted strictly on the basis of regulatory compliance and operational competence.
According to the NCAA, the certification process is aimed at ensuring that aviation security providers maintain high standards of professionalism, safety awareness and adherence to both national and international aviation security regulations.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the General Manager, AVSEC, Dr. Amzat Ibrahim, described the exercise as a new phase of verification and standardisation for aviation security service providers operating within the industry.
He explained that while some organisations underwent renewal of existing approvals, others received the unified NCAA certification for the first time. He further disclosed that the validity period for the certification has now been extended from two years to three years, a move expected to provide greater operational stability and continuity for certified operators.
The event attracted senior NCAA officials, representatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, officials from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, as well as stakeholders and operators within the aviation security sector.
Representatives of the certified organisations commended the NCAA for the initiative, describing the certification exercise as a significant step towards strengthening standards, credibility and regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s aviation security environment.
They also pledged continued adherence to aviation security regulations and reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, operational excellence and global best practices in the discharge of their responsibilities.
