The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training and capacity development across Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.
The collaboration was cemented on Monday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja by the agency’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Charles Anosike, and NCAT Rector, Danjuma Ismaila.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to deepen institutional cooperation in human capital development, enhance technical competence and improve service delivery within the aviation meteorology value chain. Under the framework, both institutions will collaborate in the use of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation training programmes and deliver specialised long- and short-term courses tailored for NiMet personnel.
The MoU also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives and the utilisation of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for International Civil Aviation Organisation-compliant aviation training. In addition, the partnership will support jointly organised programmes, including diploma training in aviation meteorology.
Key professional areas covered by the agreement include aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems and airport operations.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to sustained human capital development, stressing that continuous investment in training, technical collaboration and institutional partnerships is essential to achieving operational excellence. He noted that strengthening professional capacity within the aviation meteorology chain is critical to supporting safe, efficient and reliable air navigation services in Nigeria.
The partnership is expected to enhance the quality and depth of aviation-related training in the country while fostering closer collaboration between the two federal institutions.
