The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has received formal certification from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for its newly acquired Air Traffic Control (ATC) Simulator, a development hailed as a major step toward advancing aviation training, manpower development, and safety standards in the country.

At a brief handover ceremony in Abuja, the Director of Air Traffic Control, Mr. John Tayo, presented the certificate to NAMA’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar. He praised the collaborative efforts of the Local Management at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) and the Department of Technical Evaluation and Manpower Development, noting that their contributions were instrumental in achieving the successful certification.

In his remarks, Engr. Umar described the certification as a “landmark milestone” for NAMA and Nigerian aviation at large, emphasizing that the simulator represents a critical leap in air traffic management training. “This simulator will not only boost manpower development but also ensure operational efficiency and reinforce safety across our airspace. It is a tool that aligns Nigeria with global best practices and prepares our air traffic controllers for the most complex scenarios,” he said.

The newly certified simulator is expected to transform how Nigerian air traffic controllers are trained, offering realistic and dynamic scenarios that mirror real-world challenges. Aviation experts say this will better equip controllers to respond to both routine and emergency situations, ultimately making the nation’s skies safer for airlines, crew, and passengers alike.

Industry observers describe the acquisition and certification as a “game-changer” for Nigeria’s aviation sector, given the increasing demand for skilled air traffic controllers and the vital role they play in ensuring flight safety. The simulator will also support continuous professional development, allowing personnel to regularly update their skills and maintain peak performance standards.

By securing this certification, NAMA has reaffirmed its commitment to excellence in aviation service delivery. The milestone not only enhances Nigeria’s aviation training capacity but also strengthens the country’s position within the global aviation community.
