The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA), Ibadan, to facilitate upgrade works aimed at transforming the facility into an international airport.
In a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Authority confirmed that the Federal Government approved the closure, leading the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to shut down the runway and suspend airport operations in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.
The upgrade aligns with the Oyo State Government’s strategic initiative to elevate Ibadan Airport from a domestic to an international hub. Various improvements and remodeling efforts are currently underway, and FAAN emphasized that the closure is essential to ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel, as per aviation safety standards.
FAAN has appealed to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this period and assured that the upgrade will enhance overall passenger experience and operational efficiency.
