Delta Air Lines is offering $30,000 to each passenger aboard Flight 4819, which crash-landed and flipped upside down while attempting to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday. Despite the dramatic incident, all 80 people on board—including 76 passengers and four crew members—survived.
In a statement, Delta confirmed that the payment comes with “no strings attached and does not affect rights.” The airline’s Care Team representatives have been reaching out to passengers to assist them during the aftermath of the crash.
The CRJ-900 aircraft, arriving from Minneapolis, made a rough landing, skidded along the runway in flames, and flipped before coming to a stop. Passengers described the terrifying experience, with many left dangling upside down in their seatbelts. While 21 people were taken to hospitals, Delta reported that all but one had been released by Wednesday morning, and none had life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. While weather conditions at the time were reported as clear, wind gusts reached up to 40 mph.
Canadian law firm Rochon Genova has announced that it has been retained by some passengers and their families, emphasizing the need for a “timely and fair resolution.” Attorney Vincent Genova stated that the $30,000 payment serves as an advance to assist victims with immediate financial needs and may be deducted from any future claims settlements.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian praised the crew’s handling of the incident, stating they performed “heroically, but also as expected,” reinforcing the airline’s strong safety culture.
Delta remains committed to supporting those affected and ensuring passenger safety, urging cooperation with ongoing investigations.
