TAAG Angola Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a major milestone in its fleet modernization and long-haul expansion. The aircraft, leased from AerCap, arrived at Luanda International Airport ahead of Angola’s 50th Liberation Day celebrations, showcasing the airline’s new livery and commitment to enhanced efficiency, sustainability, and passenger experience.
Configured with 313 seats across business, premium economy, and economy classes, the fuel-efficient widebody jet will complement TAAG’s existing Boeing 737 and 777 fleet, supporting new intercontinental routes. CEO Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira highlighted the Dreamliner’s role in replacing aging aircraft while meeting growing market demands with cutting-edge technology and superior comfort.
Boeing’s vice president for Africa, Anbessie Yitbarek, emphasized the 50-year partnership with TAAG, reinforcing the company’s support in connecting Angola to global destinations. The Dreamliner reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25%, aligning with TAAG’s sustainability goals. In line with this, TAAG has partnered with Boeing to purchase carbon credits through a book-and-claim system, promoting the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
With plans for additional deliveries in 2024, TAAG Angola Airlines is set to expand its global footprint, attract more travelers and investors, and strengthen Angola’s position as a key aviation hub in Africa.
