Starting March 1, 2025, all visa applications in Nigeria will be processed online, the Federal Government has announced. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, shared this update during a discussion on ‘X Spaces’ hosted by Dr. Segun Awosanya.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo revealed that a centralized visa approval system has been established to unify the visa regime, enhance national security, and combat corruption. “By March 1st, all visa application systems will be online to ensure proper vetting,” he stated.

He emphasized that the approvals will now be handled exclusively in Abuja, ensuring uniformity and reducing inconsistencies across the process.

The Minister also highlighted the recent launch of a harmonized data center at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC) located at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Sauka, Abuja.

According to him, “We inherited an immigration system without a central data center, with critical data stored by private contractors—a direct violation of the Data Protection Act. To address this, we initially proposed a 1.4-petabyte data center but delivered an 8.3-petabyte facility instead, one of the largest globally.”

This digital transformation aims to streamline visa processes, bolster national security, and provide a seamless application experience for travelers.
