Overland Airways, Nigeria’s leading private airline, has announced the launch of direct flights between Lagos, Nigeria, and Freetown, Sierra Leone, starting December 19, 2024. This milestone marks the airline’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and fostering trade, tourism, and cultural ties across West Africa.

The Lagos-Freetown-Lagos route will operate three times weekly—Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Flights will depart Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) at 2:00 PM, arriving at Freetown International Airport (FIA) by 3:45 PM, significantly reducing travel time.

The new service will be operated using Overland Airways’ brand-new 88-seater Embraer E175 jets, featuring dual-class seating for Premium and Economy travelers. The modern jet delivers comfort, spacious legroom, and a seamless travel experience.

Mrs. Aderonke Emmanuel-James, Commercial and Corporate Risk Manager, expressed the airline’s excitement: “This new service underscores our commitment to providing safe, reliable, and convenient air travel across West Africa. It will facilitate easier travel and strengthen regional ties.”

This expansion aligns with Overland Airways’ strategic growth plan, which saw the launch of direct Lagos-Abuja flights in August 2024 and the fifth consecutive renewal of its IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification in October 2024.

Mrs. Aduke Atiba, Executive Director, described Sierra Leone as a rising business and tourism hub, saying, “Overland Airways is proud to support the Sierra Leone government’s vision of building a vibrant economy through efficient air transport.”

Captain Edward Boyo, CEO of Overland Airways, emphasized the alignment with the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM): “We are proud to lead initiatives that improve air connectivity in Africa, facilitating easier travel between nations.”

With this new route, Overland Airways reinforces its role as a leader in West African aviation, blending operational excellence with passenger-focused innovation.
