The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) and the AviAssist Foundation (AviAssist) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance aviation safety across Africa. The agreement was formalized on 9 October 2024, during the World Aviation Festival in Amsterdam, with Mr. Abderahmane Berthé, AFRAA Secretary General, and Mr. Christopher McGregor, ATR Flight Safety Officer and Chairman of the AviAssist Board, serving as signatories.
Through this collaboration, AFRAA and AviAssist will work closely to promote aviation safety throughout Africa and foster the collection and sharing of safety data. They will also focus on creating continuous professional development opportunities for African aviation professionals, as well as providing skills-building opportunities for future aviators and the next generation of aviation experts.
The partnership will facilitate the exchange of information and data on scientific and technical developments, best practices, and training results. The two organizations will jointly manage safety data for data-driven safety management and organize seminars and meetings to discuss cooperative actions. Additionally, the MoU outlines the intention to carry out joint studies or projects, including their design, construction, and operation, while encouraging mutual participation in international initiatives and networks.
Regular meetings will be held between AFRAA and AviAssist to monitor the progress of the MoU and explore new opportunities for collaboration. Other forms of cooperation may be introduced upon mutual agreement in writing.
