Global Airways, a Johannesburg-based airline has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of an Airbus A320-232, as part of its ongoing strategy to replace older aircraft with more efficient models. The aircraft, manufacturer serial number 2167, initially operated by Martinair in Holland and later by Etihad Airways, will undergo certification by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA). Once certified, it will be registered as ZS-GAB and added to Global Airways’ license.
The newly acquired A320-232 will be wet-leased by Afrijet, operating under the Fly Gabon banner to enhance regional connectivity in its markets. This addition will not only boost operational capacity but also improve service offerings for regional flights.
Global Airways Chief Operating Officer, Sandy Baynes, emphasized that the fleet renewal strategy is built on sound financial principles. The approach allows the airline to operate more efficient aircraft without incurring financial debt or other rigid obligations, maintaining financial flexibility while enhancing competitive fleet solutions for partners and customers.
The new aircraft acquisition is expected to strengthen Global Airways’ regional operations, contributing to both the airline’s growth and improved connectivity across the region.
