As the Federal Government announced the new date for resumption of flights, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has stated that only five airports are in the clear to operate. The five airports designated for the resumption of flight operations will get the go ahead to start operations on the 21st of June, 2020.
The airports are: Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja, Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano, Omagwa International Airport, Port Harcourt and Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri.
In a letter issued out to all domestic and foreign airlines operating in the country, the Director General of NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu stated that other airports would be gradually reopened after a review and assessment has been done. The five airports which will be operating are expected to adhere to existing COVID-19 protocols for approvals.
Capt. Nuhu in the letter stressed the continuous closure of Nigerian airports to international flights will continue until a date of resumption is announced.
The letter also stated that emergency and essential flights are exempted from the restriction and shall comply with the existing COVID-19 protocols for approvals.
