The Federal Ministry of Aviation has directed that all agencies and parastatals under its watch should relocate their corporate headquarters to the Federal Capital Territory Abuja within next forty-five (45) days. This is a reenactment of the botched 2012 Presidential directive.
In a letter dated May 4, 2020 and signed by Muhammad Shehu, Director, Human Resource Management on behalf of the Minister of Aviation stated that the directive became necessary due to the current global economic situation as the new initiative will help reduce cost of governance.
The letter which had the heading Relocation of Aviation Agencies’ Headquarters to Abuja, stated that the directive to move to Abuja had been on since 2012 and ordered the Chief Executive Officers of the agencies to comply immediately.
Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, also argued that the relocation of the agencies’ headquarters out of Lagos would enhance efficiency and service delivery between the ministry and the agencies.
With this directive, the agencies expected to relocate are: the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).
