United Nigeria Airlines has expanded its fleet with the addition of two Boeing 737-800 Next Generation (NG) aircraft, a move aimed at boosting operational capacity, enhancing service reliability, and supporting the carrier’s domestic and regional expansion plans.
The newly acquired aircraft, registered as 5N-CFC and 5N-CFB, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2), Lagos, on June 13 and are expected to be formally unveiled in the presence of key aviation stakeholders, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Obi of Onitsha.
In a symbolic gesture, the airline dedicated the aircraft to two prominent Nigerian figures, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, and the late literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe. United Nigeria Airlines said the dedication reflects its commitment to celebrating Nigeria’s cultural heritage and honoring individuals whose contributions have shaped the nation’s identity.
The airline described the aircraft as more than an expansion of its fleet, noting that they represent legacy, national pride, and the carrier’s vision of connecting people while promoting Nigerian excellence.
Chief Commercial Officer of United Nigeria Airlines, Adedayo Olawuyi, said the acquisition marks a significant milestone in the airline’s growth journey and reinforces its ambition to deliver world-class services to passengers.
According to him, the aircraft will not only increase capacity but also improve passenger experience and operational efficiency while supporting the airline’s broader expansion strategy.
Globally recognized for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort, the Boeing 737-800NG is expected to strengthen United Nigeria Airlines’ route network and position the carrier for further regional and long-haul growth.
The fleet expansion comes as the airline continues to deepen its footprint in Nigeria’s aviation sector. Earlier this year, United Nigeria Airlines entered into a partnership with Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), providing industrial training opportunities for Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering students and offering a 50 percent airfare discount to students during the June 2026 holiday period.
With the latest additions, the airline is seeking to meet growing demand for air travel while reinforcing its commitment to safe, seamless, and customer-focused operations.
