The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has re-certified Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.

Speaking at the certificate presentation in Abuja, FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku highlighted that the aerodrome certificates for the two airports had been inactive since 2020, following the expiration of their initial certification from 2017.

Kuku emphasized that this milestone, anchored on ICAO Annex 14 principles, demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to safe, efficient air travel. She added that key improvements have been made to runways and taxiways, with further enhancements planned to meet ICAO standards fully.

Acting NCAA Director-General, Chris Najomo, recounted the challenges leading to this achievement, including resolving 136 and 29 certification issues for MMIA and NAIA, respectively. He stressed that while the certification reflects minimum compliance, ongoing improvements and monitoring remain crucial.

Kuku also announced plans to certify other airports like Kano, Port Harcourt, and Enugu in 2024, reinforcing the sector’s dedication to maintaining international standards.
