The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is set to host the South West Regional Air Transportation Summit, a one-day conference designed to reposition Nigeria’s aviation industry for enhanced financial capability and economic viability. The summit, scheduled for October 9, 2024, at the Radisson Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, will convene key industry stakeholders to discuss the future of the sector.
Themed “Repositioning the Nigerian Aviation Industry for Financial Capability and Economic Viability: An Inclusive Regulatory Dialogue,” the summit aims to foster collaboration and stimulate dialogue on sustainable growth, financing mechanisms, and the role of aviation in driving national economic development.
Dr. Jekwu Ozoemene, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB), will deliver the keynote paper titled “Sustainable Growth in the Nigerian Civil Aviation and Air Transportation Sector: Regulatory Imperatives.” With over 25 years of experience in banking, finance, and development, Dr. Ozoemene will provide insights into regulatory measures essential for fostering growth within the aviation sector.
Another keynote speaker, Dr. Emeka Okengwu, will discuss “Leveraging Global Aviation Business Finance Mechanisms: A Reminiscence of the Cape Town Convention,” highlighting strategies to tap into global aviation financing for national benefit. Dr. Okengwu has extensive expertise in political science, entrepreneurship, and development economics, and has previously served as a business development consultant and country representative for various organizations.
The third keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Olusheyi (Sheyi) Ogunleye, a former United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Representative and Attache to West Africa. He will present a paper titled “Harnessing the Opportunities in Global Aviation and Air Transportation Systems for National Economic Growth and Development: Inclusive Regulatory Dialogue.” With over 28 years of experience in aviation security and regulatory roles, Ogunleye will share valuable perspectives on aviation’s role in global and national growth.
The summit is expected to attract participants from across the aviation sector, including airline operators, handling companies, suppliers, aviation agency officials, labor unions, and other stakeholders. The event will serve as a platform for brainstorming solutions to the challenges facing the industry while charting a new path for its future.
