The Federal Government has hinted that the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) has been scheduled to reopen April 4, 2021 for international flights. The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made the announcement at a national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, in Abuja.
This is as the Minister also reeled our reopening dates for Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa and Akanu Ibiam International Airport to flight operations. He announced that the Port Harcourt airport will be reopened on April 15 while May 3 is for the reopening of the Enugu international airport.
Sirika explained that unlike speculations by the public, the airports remained closed like others across the world as a result of the surge the nation experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airports which were reopened was done after several deliberations with stakeholders in the aviation sector. He noted that the government needed to streamline points of entry to enable it check the pandemic.
