The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken a major step toward enhancing workforce development by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ATOM Training Services, a globally recognised aviation training institute based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The strategic partnership, formalised on July 22, 2025, is part of FAAN’s broader agenda to align with global best practices and strengthen safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance across Nigeria’s airports. The agreement was signed in Dubai by FAAN’s Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Luqman Emiola Olatunbosun, and ATOM’s General and Accountable Manager, Abdulla Almemari.

The collaboration with ATOM—renowned for its ICAO-compliant and industry-specific training programs—will deliver tailored courses in critical areas such as air traffic management, emergency response, aviation safety oversight, and regulatory standards. This initiative positions FAAN personnel for global excellence and operational readiness in line with international benchmarks.

The MoU is a direct implementation of the six-point agenda championed by FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku. Since assuming office on December 18, 2023, Mrs. Kuku has prioritised institutional and human capital development, resulting in the training and certification of over 3,000 staff members across various airport functions.

Speaking on the significance of the partnership, Mrs. Kuku previously stated, “Every institution is only as powerful as the human resources managing it. Therefore, we will prioritise the enhancement of institutional and human capacity. Working with national and international bodies, we will promote Nigeria’s image and strengthen the network of FAAN.”

The FAAN delegation’s visit to ATOM’s Dubai campus included a tour of the facilities and in-depth strategy sessions with the ATOM leadership team. The discussions solidified shared goals of competency development, safety assurance, and long-term institutional strengthening.

This partnership is a cornerstone of FAAN’s Training Department strategy to address skill gaps, promote innovation, and boost Nigeria’s standing in the global aviation community. With this collaboration, FAAN reinforces its commitment to delivering safe, secure, and efficient airport operations, supported by a world-class workforce.
