As Asaba International Airport set to resume flight operations, it has been stated that no fewer than six airlines, including Ibom Air, Azman and Arik Air, would be on the Asaba route. This submission was made by the Secretary to Delta State Government, Chiedu Ebie, while on an inspection to the airport ahead of the resumption of aviation operations which is expected to begin in a few days.
The resumption of operations at the airport which was initially scheduled for earlier this year is coming several months later as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Expressing his pleasure with the level of compliance by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ebie noted that the state government has put in place all necessary protocols at the airport for passenger compliance with COVID-19 injunctions given for aviation activities.
The inspection was necessary in order to ascertain the level of preparedness by the management of the airport ahead of full resumption of flight operations in the airport. Ebie also noted that airport personnel were currently undergoing training to enable them to function optimally in line with the “new normal’’.
The SSG assured passengers who will be traveling through the airport that the state government would work out modalities to ensure that physical-distancing and the wearing of face masks were maintained in the airport operation.
