Emirates has unveiled what it describes as the world’s first Comprehensive Travel Cover, a new travel insurance offering that combines enhanced medical protection, conflict-related coverage and airline-managed disruption support, setting a new benchmark for passenger travel assurance.
The new product, developed in partnership with Travel Guard, is designed to provide travellers with broader protection before and during their journeys, while also offering additional support when flights are disrupted by events such as airspace closures or conflict-related incidents.
Under the enhanced cover, passengers are entitled to benefits including trip cancellation protection, compensation for baggage delay or loss, unlimited worldwide medical expenses and emergency evacuation coverage. The package also introduces conflict-related medical cover of up to US$25,000, alongside a complimentary trip extension of up to 30 days where required. Emirates noted that the conflict cover is not restricted by government travel advisories.
In a further expansion of passenger support, the airline will provide hotel accommodation and extended-stay assistance during certain disruption scenarios. Where Emirates services are unavailable or itineraries involve connections with other airlines, affected passengers will also be rebooked to their destinations at no additional cost, including in cases where flights are cancelled due to conflict-related disruptions.
The airline said the initiative reflects its commitment to customer care and responds to growing demand for more comprehensive travel protection amid an increasingly complex global travel environment.
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the carrier identified a gap in the market after listening to customer feedback and recognising the need for broader travel insurance solutions. He noted that demand for travel remains strong and that the enhanced product would give customers greater confidence when planning journeys to and through Dubai.
Travel Guard’s Head of Global Business and Partnerships, Russel Antonio, said the new offering builds on the longstanding collaboration between the two organisations and is designed to address the evolving needs of modern travellers through enhanced protection and support.
The Comprehensive Travel Cover is available at the time of booking through Emirates’ website and can also be added to existing reservations through the airline’s Manage Booking platform. For customers in South Africa, the product became available from 17 June 2026.
The enhanced travel protection is currently offered across a range of markets, including South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and several European countries, as Emirates continues to strengthen its customer-focused services beyond the flight experience itself.
