Kenya Airways has paid a sanction fine imposed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over multiple consumer protection breaches, including the mistreatment of Nigerian passenger Gloria Omisore.

The NCAA confirmed the payment on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, following a series of meetings involving the Kenyan High Commissioner to Nigeria, officials of Kenya Airways, and representatives from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The infractions included failure to provide adequate care, lack of full disclosure on terms of carriage, refusal to respond to NCAA requests, non-processing of refunds and compensation, and mishandling of baggage.

The case stemmed from a February incident in which Omisore, traveling from Lagos to Manchester via Nairobi and Paris, was denied boarding at Nairobi over a disputed visa requirement, leading to a heated exchange that went viral online.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, said the sanction was not punitive but intended to improve airline operations, particularly passenger handling and safety protocols.

He added that while NCAA commends Kenya Airways for complying, “the payment of sanction fines does not conclude the issues, as the timeframe for resolving the affected cases has since elapsed.”

The authority assured that it would continue monitoring Kenya Airways’ operations in Nigeria to ensure compliance and protection of passenger rights.
