The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a nationwide awareness campaign to curb the rising cases of verbal and physical assaults on airline ground staff and cabin crew by passengers.
The initiative, which kicked off with passenger education at airport terminals, is the authority’s response to growing aggression linked to flight delays, cancellations, and baggage disputes.
NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, stressed that airline staff are not adversaries but safety partners.
“Cabin crew are not the enemy. They don’t make the rules; their duty is to keep passengers safe and ensure smooth operations. Be you passenger, cabin crew, or ground staff, we are all partners in this ecosystem, and we must not hurt one another,” he said.
The Authority warned that assaults on aviation personnel compromise safety, disrupt operations, and carry severe consequences, including prosecution and blacklisting.
Passengers are instead urged to use established complaint channels to resolve grievances.
The sensitisation campaign will continue across major airports nationwide in the coming weeks, reinforcing the NCAA’s zero-tolerance stance on violence against aviation workers.
