Storm Ashley has caused widespread flight cancellations and delays across the UK and Ireland, with strong winds of up to 80mph grounding planes. Belfast City, Dublin, and Glasgow airports have been particularly affected, with Aer Lingus canceling all flights between Glasgow, Dublin, and Belfast on Sunday. Loganair also canceled flights to and from Barra and Tiree.
Four flights from Glasgow to Dublin were grounded as well as two flights from Glasgow to Belfast. Six flights into Glasgow Airport were also cancelled – two from Belfast and four from Dublin.
For Loganair, two outbound flights were affected, one from Glasgow to Barra at 10.40am on Sunday and another from Glasgow to Tiree at 1.45pm. Another two inbound flights from Barra and Tiree to Glasgow Airport were also affected.
Spokesperson for Dublin Airport said on X: “Storm Ashley is having an impact on flight operations throughout Ireland and the UK today. Some airlines have cancelled a small number of flights in and out of Dublin Airport, while others are subject to delays. Winds are forecast to remain strong throughout.”
Passengers at Belfast City Airport were left stuck onboard planes as strong winds prevented safe disembarkation. The Met Office issued amber warnings, with gusts expected to cause power cuts and damage across several regions.
