The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have initiated discussions on improving operational efficiency and enhancing passenger experience at Nigerian airports. During a visit to FAAN’s headquarters in Lagos, IATA’s Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Alawadhi, expressed willingness to collaborate, particularly in adopting advanced technology to streamline security processes and improve airport services.

Alawadhi commended FAAN’s commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and security, noting the progress made under the current administration. He emphasized the importance of leveraging digital solutions for checkpoint management and enhancing communication between agencies at airports, which would lead to a more seamless and efficient passenger experience. IATA expressed its readiness to assist FAAN in meeting global aviation standards.

In response, FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, highlighted the agency’s focus on adopting advanced security technologies and making Nigerian airports more passenger-centric. She stressed that improving customer service, reducing check-in time, and upgrading airport facilities were top priorities. Kuku called for closer collaboration with IATA, emphasizing the need for regular meetings to support FAAN’s goals.

Kuku also sought IATA’s assistance in traffic development and other areas crucial to the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry. She assured the IATA delegation that FAAN is fully committed to implementing their recommendations, ensuring that Nigerian airports continue to meet international standards.

IATA’s delegation, led by Alawadhi, included senior officials, such as Dr. Samson Fatokun and Kashif Khan. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting FAAN in its efforts to improve Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
