The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has led a Nigerian delegation to the first-ever Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Symposium organized by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montréal, Canada. The event, which has spanned the last three days, is themed “Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Global Harmonization and Interoperability: Challenges and Opportunities.”
AAM 2024 marks a pioneering effort in the aviation industry, building on ICAO’s Drone Enable programme. The symposium showcases innovative technologies, including electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, vertiports, automation, and the integration of these advancements into global airspace systems. The event serves as a platform for global aviation leaders to discuss both the challenges and opportunities associated with the rapidly evolving sector.
Minister Keyamo emphasized the importance of the symposium, stating, “This event presents a vital opportunity for Nigeria and other nations to learn from one another as we explore the future of Advanced Air Mobility. Nigeria is committed to collaborating with ICAO and other stakeholders to ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable integration of these technologies into our national aviation system.”
Keyamo was accompanied by key figures in Nigeria’s aviation sector, including Captain Chris Najomo, Acting Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), as well as representatives from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). These leaders, alongside international experts and stakeholders, are participating in discussions aimed at fostering the global adoption of AAM technologies.
