In 2017, the Federal Government of Nigeria launched a programme tagged Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria.
This programme is targeted at ensuring that government agencies deliver services to the general public in a timely, honest and efficient manner. In essence, the Federal Government did a critical evaluation of service offerings in government establishments and discovered that there is so much bureaucracy in processes and procedures.
Consequently, the Ease of Doing Business initiative was conceived and launched to reduce to the barest minimum, bureaucratic bottlenecks in government processes and procedures.
FAAN, being a critical stakeholder and a major catalyst for investments in Nigeria was chosen alongside a few other agencies to pilot the scheme.
In July 2017, the Ease of Doing Business programme was fully launched in FAAN, with the major objective of ensuring that quality services are delivered at our airports across Nigeria in a timely and efficient manner.
The Authority has embraced the initiative fully, as there has been a paradigm shift in processes and procedures since the programme was launched.
In the area of security, FAAN had deployed more CCTV facilities at her airports, to ensure wider coverage and consequently improve greatly on security operations at the airports.
Also, 3 new baggage scanners have been delivered and installed in Lagos, to replace manual searches and checking of luggage.
These and other security measures recently put in place has resulted in a drastic reduction in touting and illegal activities at our airports.
On facilitation, the Authority has effected the repair of 4 elevators at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. Also, FAAN has commenced the process of reactivating 8 unserviceable Aviobridges and they will soon become functional again.
The central cooling system for the arrival and departure extension halls of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport is already being fixed and will be completed soon.
The Authority has also embarked on maintenance and repair of toilet facilities in Lagos and other international airports across the country.
Also to improve on ground facilitation, a brand new multilevel car park was delivered and commissioned for use in October, 2017.
The Authority has also expanded the coverage areas for public address system at the Lagos. Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kano airports, with trained officers manning the control rooms.
The Authority has also completed the fixing of Auto-doors at the arrival and departure halls of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
FAAN has also completed the fixing of lightings and upgrade of electrical installations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport.
In all facets of the Authority’s operations, FAAN is taking giant strides to ensure that the aspiration of the Federal Government in attracting investors and opening up the nation’s economy is realized.
