ValueJet, Nigeria’s fast-growing airline, is making waves in West African aviation by connecting Nigerian travellers to The Gambia with direct, budget-friendly flights. Since launching its Lagos–Banjul route in May 2025, the airline has emerged as the only carrier currently operating direct flights between Nigeria and The Gambia—positioning itself as a key driver of regional tourism and trade.

With twice-weekly flights departing Lagos every Thursday and Sunday evening and returning from Banjul early Monday and Friday mornings, ValueJet is targeting both leisure seekers and business travellers. The flights operate from the new terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, offering convenience, comfort, and efficiency.

Speaking on the significance of the route, Managing Director of ValueJet, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, described the development as a strategic milestone in regional connectivity and economic cooperation. “The Lagos to Banjul flight is an important step in ValueJet’s broader vision to bridge travel gaps across Africa. We’re creating access, encouraging tourism, and fostering closer economic ties between Nigeria, The Gambia, and the wider West African region,” he said.

ValueJet’s “Easy Breezy” campaign has been spotlighting Banjul, The Gambia’s capital, as a serene and affordable destination ideal for beach lovers, history buffs, and business-minded travellers. The airline has been promoting the simplicity of international travel with its service—no layovers, short travel times, and competitive pricing—all designed to remove barriers and encourage exploration.

One traveller, Titi, a young Nigerian professional who visited Banjul after seeing a friend’s glowing post on social media, echoed the airline’s message: “I didn’t think an international beach getaway could be this simple or this budget-friendly.”

In addition to leisure, ValueJet sees The Gambia as a gateway for cultural exchange and business opportunities. “It’s more than a destination,” Majekodunmi noted. “We’re opening doors for trade, tourism, and people-to-people connection across the subregion.”

As part of its long-term vision, ValueJet is committed to closing gaps in intra-African connectivity by making regional travel accessible to everyday travellers. Through its expansion into underserved West African routes like Lagos–Banjul, the airline is redefining what affordable and convenient travel means for the continent.
