Security operatives at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, arrested three passengers for disruptive behavior aboard an Air Peace flight from London to Lagos. The individuals, identified as Adedigba Adewale, Ashibogu Magnus, and Iwonze Benjamin, allegedly caused a mid-air disturbance, endangering the safety of passengers and crew.
The incident unfolded mid-flight when Adewale and Magnus, who held economy class tickets, forcibly occupied business class seats. Despite multiple instructions from the cabin crew to return to their assigned seats, they refused to comply. Their defiant actions caused unease among passengers and crew members, prompting further intervention.
In a brazen act of misconduct, the two individuals, joined by Benjamin, openly consumed a bottle of rum they had unlawfully brought onboard. Their disorderly behavior intensified, leading to verbal altercations and increased safety concerns. The escalating tension forced the flight captain to briefly step out of the cockpit to assess the situation before returning as a precautionary measure.
Concerned about potential risks, the flight crew promptly alerted Nigerian security agencies before arrival. Upon landing in Lagos, law enforcement officials were on standby and immediately took the three individuals into custody for further investigation.
Air Peace condemned the unruly actions, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining safety, security, and professionalism on all flights. The airline commended its crew for their swift and professional handling of the situation, preventing further escalation.
Authorities have since launched a formal investigation into the incident, with legal actions expected against the offenders. Air Peace reiterated that disruptive behavior onboard will not be tolerated, emphasizing its strict adherence to global aviation safety standards.
