Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) has secured the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification, becoming the only aviation ground handling company in Nigeria and one of the few in Africa to attain the globally recognised information security standard.
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is regarded as the international benchmark for information security management. The certification provides a structured framework for identifying cyber risks, safeguarding sensitive data and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of critical information assets.
The milestone follows a comprehensive audit and compliance assessment conducted by a globally accredited certification body, during which SAHCO met all stringent requirements. The achievement underscores the company’s commitment to cyber resilience, operational discipline and world-class service delivery in an increasingly digitised aviation environment.
In modern ground handling operations, digital infrastructure supports flight coordination, cargo processing, passenger handling, airline communications and regulatory interfaces. With operational systems deeply interconnected, vulnerabilities can disrupt services and compromise sensitive data. By attaining ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, SAHCO has demonstrated its capacity to proactively manage information security risks, deploy preventive safeguards and ensure business continuity amid evolving cyber threats.
The certification covers key operational domains, including cargo handling operations, customer information management, operational systems and corporate support services. Implementation involved extensive risk assessments, deployment of layered security controls, staff awareness programmes, incident response planning and continuous monitoring aligned with global best practices.
Speaking on the achievement, Executive Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, emphasised that information security is an organisation-wide responsibility.
“Information security is not just an IT function; it is an organisational responsibility. Every employee plays a role in protecting our systems and customer data. Through structured training, strict policies and continuous monitoring, we have built a proactive security culture that supports safe, secure and reliable aviation operations,” he said.
The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification adds to SAHCO’s portfolio of international recognitions, including ISAGO, RA3, EMS, QMS, SMS, ISO and SON approvals, reinforcing its culture of compliance and operational excellence.
Beyond the accolade, the certification positions SAHCO as a continental leader in secure aviation ground handling, reflecting a deliberate strategy anchored on digital transformation, cybersecurity investment and uncompromising operational integrity across Africa’s evolving aviation landscape.
