South African Airways (SAA) has announced plans to boost flight frequencies to key African and international destinations starting in November 2024. The airline will increase services to Harare and Lusaka to 12 flights per week, up from 10 and 7 weekly flights, respectively. Flights to Lagos and Accra will rise from three to four times a week, while SAA will strengthen its presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with five weekly flights to Kinshasa.
On the domestic front, SAA will increase its flights to Gqeberha to three times a day, enhancing connectivity within South Africa.
In addition to these African routes, SAA will also increase its international services. From December 2024, the airline will operate twice-daily flights to Mauritius, aligning with the peak holiday season. Starting January 2025, flights to Perth will increase to five times per week, catering to strong demand from South African travelers.
SAA’s Interim CEO, Professor John Lamola, noted that the airline has experienced rapid route expansion since 2021. As South Africa continues to recover its travel market, with a significant portion of visitors from other African nations, SAA aims to consolidate its position as a key player in connecting Africa.
Lamola emphasized the airline’s commitment to growing South Africa’s economy by expanding air travel routes that support tourism and trade across the continent.
