The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched a comprehensive training programme in multimodal transport accident investigation, with participation from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and NSIB officials. The initiative, part of NSIB’s mission to elevate safety standards across Nigeria’s transport sectors, focuses on building investigative capacity to handle the country’s expanding infrastructure and evolving safety challenges.

The programme is facilitated by experts from the UK’s Cranfield University and Buckinghamshire New University, in collaboration with Nigeria’s Institute of Transport Technology (NITT). This partnership aims to transfer global best practices and equip investigators with advanced technical skills, enhancing their ability to manage complex investigations and prevent future incidents.

NSIB Director General Captain Alex Badeh Jr. highlighted the importance of integrating military personnel into the training to foster a multidisciplinary approach that will ultimately benefit Nigeria’s entire transportation ecosystem. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the vision of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, who is focused on raising safety standards and modernising protocols across the aviation and transport industries.

This training supports NSIB’s strategic goals of improving transparency, enhancing investigative efficiency, and proactively managing risks, ensuring that Nigeria’s transport infrastructure remains safe as it continues to expand. By combining military expertise with civilian investigative practices and international insights, this initiative marks a significant step toward NSIB’s goal of becoming a leading authority in transportation safety across Africa.
